Actifine® FMRP - Functionalised Micronised Rubber Powder

Actifine® is our answer to the greatest challenge facing the tyre, rubber, and elastomer industries; a perfectly circular product with a minimum environmental footprint. We are determined to transform the future of rubber!

We do this by adding the F to MRP … FMRP. Functionalisation of the MRP converts the MRP into a fully circular product by facilitating its reuse in new tyres and other rubber products at concentrations of up to 45%.

Actifine®

Actifine® is a high-performance Functionalised Micronised Rubber Powder (FMRP) and finds applications in tyres, conveyor belting, hose and other technical rubber goods. Actifine® is a cryogenically ground rubber powder produced exclusively from pre-selected end-of-life whole truck tyres and undergoes a patented chemical surface treatment in order to (re)-activate (or “functionalise”) its ability to form crosslinks during vulcanisation. As such the rubber powder becomes a bonded and integral part of the new rubber compound, allowing the rubber industry to produce more sustainable, strong, and durable products.

How It Works

Tyre Rubber Reborn

Although every tyre reaches its end of life someday, the rubber does not. Our technology enables the rebirth of rubber as strong and efficient as virgin natural rubber.

End of life tyres are ground to micron sized particles.

Our proprietary process activates the surface of each rubber particle.

The functionalised particles can be mixed into new rubber compounds paving the way for endless circularity.

Ultra-Efficient Processing Driven by Ultra-Cold Temperatures

We cryogenically freeze tyre rubber down to each macromolecular chain and chemical bond.

The frozen molecular structure of tyre rubber enters a state of embrittlement. A powerful grinding mill then comminutes it into small particles with unique properties.

Cryogenic recycling produces finely dispersed high-quality particles at very high yields.

Recover Restore Rubber

We engineer the surface of rubber particles via an elaborate chemical functionalisation process, making Actifine® the most reinforcing rubber powder on the market.

The functionalisation process is built upon decades of experience in the rubber industry and requires only a little resource, it is non-hazardous and has a negligible environmental impact.

From Tyre to Tyre

Our functionalised rubber micro-particles are particularly designed for tyre compounds. They are easily dispersed in a new rubber matrix where they reconstruct powerful chemical bonds with surrounding macromolecules.

After vulcanisation, it is impossible to tell the difference between filled and unfilled compounds.

This recycling breakthrough unlocks the entire value of tyre rubber waste and renders an infinite circularity.

Technical Description

The surface activation minimises the negative impacts on tensile properties (particularly M300 modulus), tear and abrasion resistance that are typically associated with untreated MRP. Dynamic moduli, tan delta, hysteresis, and heat build-up are maintained at very attractive levels, thereby making Actifine® an excellent high-performance and low-cost additive in tyres and other demanding applications.

Loading concentrations vary according to the application but as a general guideline between 5 and 12 wt.% loadings are possible in tyre compounds without any significant loss of mechanical or dynamic performance or undesirable processing problems. Higher loadings are possible, particularly in natural rubber compounds (up to 45 %) where maximum volume cost benefits are sought.
